Nandi residents to be treated at Kapsabet Hospital as medics strike continues

Nandi County Health Chief Officer Edward Serem says medical services will be offered at Kapsabet Referral Hospital with the help of county health managers to mitigate the effects of the ongoing health workers’ strike.

Serem insists the strike by medics in the county is illegal, urging those seeking medical attention to visit the Kapsabet Referral Hospital.

Similarly, the Nandi County Government has refuted claims that the striking nurses have been fired and their replacements sought through advertisement of 191 posts.

The county instead says the 41 striking nurses have been released back to the national government and their replacement will be done at a later date, adding the advertisements had been planned earlier.

This even as the strike by health workers entered its third week Monday with no respite in sight.

The nurses have vowed not to return to work to attend to patients until the county government fulfills an agreement it signed with them on promotion and payment of allowances.

Kenya National Union of Nurses national chairman John Bii says the medics will not relent accusing the county headed by Cleophas Lagat of ignoring their concerns and those of residents
