We demand full disclosure on COVID-19 funds Karua

NARC Kenya party leader Martha Karua is demanding accountability and transparency from the government on how COVID-19 funds have been spent during this pandemic.

She accused the State of allegedly presiding over corruption through the fund that was sourced to support the country’s ailing health system.

“We demand full disclosure, transparency and accountability for all COVID-19 funds, resources and equipment from ALL sources including loans, grants, donations and in-kind support both locally and internationally

“For all practical purposes, this government has collapsed. The only things that seems to be functioning in this government are mis-procurement, taxation and political patronage. Kenyans deserve better,” she said on Monday.

The outspoken lawyer alleged that the State is using cash to achieve private political interest.

She decried rampant corruption in the government saying the CS for health Mutahi Kagwe should come clean on how Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and monies were allocated.

Karua also criticized allocation of funds for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) saying the cash should be diverted to the health sector at this critical time of the pandemic.

The former Gichugu lawmaker also urged the government to end the reigning confusion in the education sector and allow learners to resume classes.

She also noted that the impasse over the revenue allocation formula at the Senate should be quickly resolved.

According to Karua, the government should reconsider the equalization fund project in the a bid to support the marginalized counties.
