Narok: A.P officer arraigned for allegedly killing suspect

An Administration Police officer was on Tuesday arraigned before a Narok court and charged with killing a suspect while on duty.

Appearing before Narok Senior Principal Magistrate Tito Gesora, Administration Police Constable Silas Kemboi was charged with shooting to death Nicholas Koros on September 17, 2018 at Ol-Mekenyu Trading Centre in Narok West.

The court heard that he allegedly went to arrest Mr. Koros at his home after his (Koros’) girlfriend lodged a complaint against him. The deceased, however, reportedly resisted arrest during which the officer shot and killed him.

The officer was initially charged with murder but the charge was later reduced to manslaughter which faces a penalty of up to life imprisonment.

The accused, who was represented by advocate Martin Kilele, denied the charges and was released on a bond of Ksh.150,000 with one surety of a similar amount or a cash bail of Ksh.100,000.
