Narok County Starts Electronic Registration Of Orphans

The ongoing process, which started on Wednesday, is aimed at filing the children and their beneficiaries’ details for a cash transfer program.

Speaking in his office, Narok County head of Children department Fred Wesley Simi said that about 3,200 households are expected to be registered through the electronic process so as to benefit from the program.

The program has been running for several years but amendments were made to ensure only needy orphans and other vulnerable children benefit.

"Earlier, beneficiaries used to receive money through Post Bank but they will now be receiving the money through Kenya Commercial Bank,” said Mr. Simi.

Averting allocation inconveniences

He added that the children office had adopted the post office services to reduce the transport expenses on beneficiaries but most rural areas lack the facilities.

He urged the beneficiaries to ensure they give the right information when registering to avoid inconveniences in the allocation.

Every beneficiary is entitled to Ksh 2,000 per month and the money is collected after three month.

Simi reiterated that the house-holds that benefit from the programme are selected through a clear procedure and the children have to be needy and vulnerable.

The programme has, however, picked up at a slow pace due to what sources reveals to be lack of mobilization to the public.
