Narok-Mai Mahiu road closed after section sinks

The Narok- Mai Mahiu Road was closed on Wednesday morning after a section of the road was cut off following heavy rains, leaving motorists stranded.

The road sunk at Suswa area on Tuesday night causing a heavy traffic snarl up with motorists being forced to use alternative routes.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) said, “the road developed a fault line stretching 200 metres and completely cut the road off.”

A section of the Mai-Mahiu- Narok Road cut off by foods.

No one was injured during the incident.

Motorists travelling from South Rift, Kisii and Nyanza were diverted to Kericho-Nakuru highway.

Those travelling to Nairobi from Narok were directed to use Narok – Nakuru – Nairobi Road.

Police said a section of the road as wide as four metres and 20 feet in depth was cut off.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) said it had dispatched a team of engineers to assess the situation and come up with temporary measures to restore traffic.

“KeNHA will continously update the public on the status of the restoration of the works. We highly regret for the inconvenience caused to the motorists and passengers,” said KeNHA in a statement.
