Narok Town flooded as heavy rains continue to pound the country

Property worth millions of shillings was destroyed as floods swept through Narok Town on Sunday.

The destruction was witnessed even after the county and national governments reported they had put in place all necessary precautions to mitigate the effects of heavy rains.

The national government budgeted Sh15 billion to mitigate the effects of El Nino rains in the country and set up the national disaster and coordination center to help abate the effects of the rains.

High-powered delegations led by Deputy President William Ruto and outgoing devolution CS Anne Waiguru, who led national youth servicemen in clearing drainage in the town, reiterated the government’s preparedness, but now all the money pumped into such projects seems to have born no fruit with Narok back to the starting line.

Narok Town is not new to flooding, in earlier this year the town was hit by similar flash floods that led to the death of 15 people and destruction of property worth millions.

Heavy rains have been witnessed around the country with hundreds of farmers in Pokot Central also counting losses after the Weiwei Irragation Scheme was flooded.
