NASA condemns killing of IEBC ICT director

The opposition National Super Alliance (NASA) has condemned the murder of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) ICT deputy Director Christopher Chege Musando, terming the killing as inhuman.

NASA now wants the government to provide all electoral commission staff with adequate security before next week’s August 8 General Election, insisting that the employees are not safe.

Speaking at Capitol Hill in Nairobi on Monday, July 31, the opposition leaders led by Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi also urged IEBC Commissioners to be brave and ensure that they deliver a free, fair and credible polls.

“We are totally confident that this act will strengthen Kenyans for their quest to have free and fair election. Our supporters must turn out in large numbers to vote us in. We urge IEBC commissioners to soldier on to deliver free and fair election,” said Mr. Mudavadi.

While reacting to the news of the killing of his colleague, IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati demanded that government launches a probe to find out the people who “tortured and murdered” Christopher Musando.

Christopher Musando, who was in charge of data centres and election transmission systems, disappeared on Friday night.

According to the police, his body was found in Kikuyu in Kiambu County, a few metres from the body of a woman. Mortuary attendants said the two bodies were brought to the facility by a police vehicle on Sunday.

On Sunday, the IEBC tweeted that one of its ICT managers had been missing since Friday and police sprang to action later in the evening his vehicle was found parked in Roysambu in Nairobi.

On Monday morning, police ruled out foul play but few hours later members of Chris Musando’s family positively identified his body at the City Mortuary.
