NASA elects Senator Cleophas Malala as Deputy Senate Minority leader
Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has been elected as Senate Minority Leader to deputise Siaya Senator James Orengo.
Malala was elected by NASA Senators during a meeting held at Parliament buildings on Tuesday morning.
The seat fell vacant after Senator Orengo, who served as the Deputy Minority leader, was elected to replace Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula who was bundled out from the Senate Minority Leader position.
Malala was considered the front runner for the post which was also being eyed by Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina.
A section of the senators felt that the seat should be rewarded to the Western bloc where Wetangula comes from.
Minority Whip Mutula Kilonzo Jnr will communicate the decision to elect Malala to Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka.
