NASA now demand US envoy’s ouster

A section of NASA supporters held a demonstration outside the American embassy in Gigiri, Nairobi on Friday at 10 am to demand the resignation of Ambassador Robert Godec.

In a post on its official Facebook page, the opposition coalition urged its supporters to go to the embassy to call for the resignation of Mr. Godec who has been in Kenya since 2013.

The opposition has on more than one occasion accused the ambassador of being “partisan” in their quest for electoral justice.

On Wednesday, NASA MPs warned Western envoys to keep off Kenya’s political affairs.

Speaking to journalists at Capitol Hill, Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang claimed that the envoys push was motivated by commercial interests.

“Some of the envoys were involved in dubious deals for instance the single sourcing of the carriage way from Nairobi to Mombasa and overpriced air tractor that was to be sold to KDF but was later thwarted by an American congressman,” said Mr. Kajwang.

On Sunday February 11, the envoys, in a statement asked opposition leader Raila Odinga to recognise the election of President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto as legitimate.

“The opposition needs to accept that Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto are the legitimate President and Deputy President of Kenya as the basis for the dialogue that it and many Kenyans want. Stoking and threatening violence are not acceptable, nor are extra-constitutional measures to seize power, read the statement.

The US State Department on February 8 maintained that Godec has their full support.
