NASA Senators Ledama, Malala in race to succeed Orengo

Battle lines have been drawn in the Senate as the National Super Alliance (NASA) Senators plan to elect the Deputy Minority Leader.

The seat fell vacant after Siaya Senator James Orengo, who served as the Deputy Minority leader, was elected to replace Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula who was bundled out.

Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala is said to be the front runner for the post to deputise Orengo in the Senate.

A section of the senators feel the seat should be rewarded to the Western bloc where Wetangula comes from.

However, Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina is also said to have intensified his lobbying for the position saying the pastoralists who backed Odinga in 2017 particularly the Maasai have not been rewarded.

The opposition senators are scheduled to meet on Tuesday morning to elect the new Deputy Minority Leader in a meeting to be overseen by Minority Whip in the Senate Mutula Kilonzo Jnr.
