NASA team heads to Meru, Tharaka Nithi counties

The National Super Alliance (NASA) is set to take yet another onslaught at a perceived Jubilee Party stronghold in the Mount Kenya region.

NASA tour of Meru and Tharaka Nithi Counties, in Mount Kenya East, is preceded by its maiden political rally at Deputy President’s William Ruto home turf of Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga, however, bashed the media for allegedly zoning the country into Jubilee or opposition strongholds.

Odinga opined that the current youthful electorate in the country has moved beyond ethnic political affiliations to issue-based politics, thereby implying that their newfound political outfit gets support across the country.

“Kenya has tremendously moved forward from the 2013 elections. Right now we have completely different youthful voters,” said Raila.

The NASA brigade will begin their two-day tour of the region on Monday, February 27, by holding political rallies in Timau, Meru town, Maua, Lare among other urban centres in Meru County.

On Tuesday, NASA leaders will head to Tharaka Nithi County.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga disclosed that the tour is aimed at introducing NASA to the people, as well as meeting potential aspirants on the coalition ticket.

While departing for the tour at Wilson Airport in Nairobi, Raila took a swipe at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for what he termed as unpreparedness to conduct the August 8 polls.

Raila expressed concerns over the voters’ register mess, insisting that the country must go to the elections with a clean register.

He said that the current register is cluttered with ghost voters, deceased voters and double registrations.

He further faulted the electoral commission of failure to put in place the necessary Information, Communication Technology infrastructure five months to the polls.
