NASA wants IEBC to stop presidential election results announcement

The Opposition National Super Alliance (NASA) maintains that the presidential election results being released by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries (IEBC) are unverified and therefore illegitimate.

Addressing news  conference in Nairobi, NASA co-principal and presidential elections chief agent, Musalia Mudavadi, claimed they had scrutinized results from both IEBC and NASA agents and that what was being displayed on the screens by the electoral commission was misleading.

IEBC has however maintained that there was no interference with its server as claimed by the opposition alliance. IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati and CEO Ezra Chiloba have stated that the commission had investigated the Nasa claims and found no evidence to confirm them.

However in a letter addressed to Chebukati, NASA demands that the electoral body “stops forthwith the display of unverified and unauthenticated results”.

NASA is also demanding that the IEBC allows political parties to download all the Forms 34A and Forms 34B to enable them to verify the same.

The opposition further argues that the IEBC flaunted Article 86 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 by allegedly failing to count, tabulate and announce presidential election results promptly from each constituency.

NASA further accused IEBC of failing to put in place appropriate structures and mechanisms to eliminate electoral malpractice including the safekeeping of election materials as per Article 86 (d) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.

Mudavadi said NASA has already met with the IEBC Chairman and Commissioners to formally express the concerns.

On Wednesday (August 9), NASA rejected Tuesday’s election results displayed by the electoral commission with Odinga terming the process a fraud.

Odinga, who was accompanied by his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka and other NASA leaders, claimed the results being released by the IEBC have been doctored to give the incumbent, President Uhuru Kenyatta of Jubilee, a lead.

According to Odinga, hackers had manipulated the IEBC servers to give President Kenyatta a constant lead over.
