NASA: We do not want Cabinet positions

The National Super Alliance (NASA) on Thursday maintained its position that it is not interested in cabinet positions even as President Uhuru Kenyatta prepares to announce the full cabinet anytime.

Speaking during a press conference at Okoa Kenya, NASA also insisted that the swearing in of Raila Odinga on January 30 is still on course. They also said swearing in is not a bargaining chip for dialogue.

“NASA is not interested in boardroom deals which have not delivered for Kenyans like the 2007 power sharing agreement. We don’t recognise this illegitimate government and we will not give it legitimacy,” said Mr. Ndii.

“The swearing in is a reclamation of NASA’s win in the August 8 election.”

Mr. Ndii was alluding claims that the delay in naming the Cabinet by President Uhuru Kenyatta was as a result of lobbying to have some members of the coalition join government.

The National Resistance Movement committee member noted that NASA will be heading to Machakos tomorrow (Friday, January 18) to engage on need to share power and co-exist peacefully.

Ndii further said that through the People’s Assembly forum, NASA is leading what he termed as an open inclusive, transformational dialogue which will trigger political transformation in the country.

“Our nation is deeply divided between two irreconcilable political values namely authoritarian rule and democracy. They (Jubilee) have in fact stated that a benevolent dictatorship is better than a democracy. The way out for the country is to embark on an urgent, honest and far reaching conversation sooner rather than later,” he said.
