Meru County leaders extend welcome to NASA leaders

A section of Meru County leaders have welcomed the newly formed National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders in the county.

Lawmakers Rahim Dawood and Mwiti Irea of Imenti North and Imenti Central respectively together with aspiring governor Kilemi Mwiria on Saturday urged residents to be democratic and allow NASA leaders to have a peaceful and welcoming environment during their rally on Monday.

“You are welcome in Meru, but please do not badmouth the president. Accord him the respect he deserves as the head of state because this is a Jubilee zone,” said Rahim Dawood.

Mwiti, on his part, told the residents to allow the opposition to explain their policies to them.

Gubernatorial aspirant Dr Kilemi Mwiria said that Kenya is a free and democratic society and therefore NASA leaders should come to Meru and campaign for their coalition, as Jubilee will also do so in the so-called NASA strongholds.

Mr Mwiti and Mr Mwiria were speaking to residents at Gaitu Secondary School in Imenti Central.

Mr Dawood, who was speaking to residents in Mulathankari Catholic Church in Imenti North, took the opportunity to put to rest rumours, believed to be spread by his political rival Mutea Iringo, that he is defecting from the Jubilee Party (JP), insisting that he is in the party to stay.

NASA is yet to name its presidential candidate in the coming August Polls, a position locked between former premier Raila Odinga, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya Party Leader Moses Wetangula.
