Nation journalist Walter Menya released

The Court has released Nation Media Group journalist, Walter Menya, unconditionally without charges preferred against him.

This was after the Senior Prosecutor Milimani Law Courts, Daniel Karori, told the court that he has instructions from the office of Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to release the journalist on free bond pending completion of investigations.

Senior Principal Magistrate, Martha Mutuku, noted in her ruling that the investigating officer has not even tabled before court the progress and findings in the matter hence no reason to confine the journalist in police cells.

Menya’s advocates led by James Orengo, Apollo Mboya and Nelson Havi, took stand that the journalist should be released unconditionally since the DPP was not even sure what to do with the journalist for lack of material basis to charge him.

The journalist was arrested on Sunday, June 18 on bribery claims.

The matter will be mentioned in a week’s time for further directions.
