National Assembly forms team to probe betting in Kenya

The National Assembly has formed an 11-member team to lead a probe into the betting and gambling industry in the country.

The House noted the significant growth in the gambling industry, adding that there may be loopholes that industry players may use to perpetuate tax evasion and money laundering.

Three betting firms and a host of casinos have cropped up in the past two years with millions of shillings in circulation.

Other members of the committee are MPs Thomas Mwadeghu (Wundanyi), Benjamin Langat (Ainamoi), Samuel Chepkonga (Ainabkoi), Kanini Kega (Kieni) and Samuel Gichigi (Kipipiri).

The team is expected to table a report on its findings in 14 days.
