NCA Orders Demolition of Two Buildings in Nyeri

This comes as a result of an audit of all buildings launched by Nyeri County Government and the (NCA) to ensure that all structures are safe for occupation.

The audit team led by the County Executive for Land and infrastructure Development John Maina has also ordered tenants in buildings that are yet to be complete to vacate them until the buildings are issued with occupation certificates.

“Some buildings that are already occupied have beams and electrical wires hanging out, making them dangerous and no one should be living in them” an NCA officer said.

According to NCA Engineer, Levy Muraguri, most buildings under construction were also ordered for lack of site and safety signage while some were found to be poorly done.

In the Nyeri CBD, the audit team condemned a commercial building owned by Cathedral Holdings Limited after a single floor extension that was recently constructed was found with cracks all over.

The officers also ordered the closure of a hostel building near the Dedan Kimathi University of Technology which is already being occupied by students .

The officers said the owners should demolish the buildings or have the authorities demolish them at the owners’ cost.
