Ndambiri says Kirinyaga not ready to fight COVID-19, blames it on row between Waiguru and MCAs

Kirinyaga Deputy Governor Peter Ndambiri has revealed that the county is not ready to fight coronavirus pandemic.

He attributed the problem to the budget stalemate between Governor Anne Waiguru and the Kirinyaga ward representatives urging them to put their differences aside.

‘There are no medicines at our hospitals and dispensaries,” Ndambiri lamented adding that that the county has not met the 300 bed capacity requirement and it will be a disaster should the number of COVID-19 cases increase.

He was speaking on Saturday during a funeral at Ndindiruku village in Mwea Sub-County.

Ndambiri further noted that there are only 14 beds at an isolation ward in Kerugoya Referral Hospital reiterating that they are not sufficient.

According to the DG, Kirinyaga County has no funds and will not be able to put various preventive measures in place.

On Saturday, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe reported 20 more COVID-19 cases in Kirinyaga.

He stated that Nairobi remains a hotspot but revealed that Kirinyaga’s infection rate is also rapidly rising.

In total, the county now has 24 confirmed cases of the virus with their contacts already in quarantine.

Kenya now has 21,363 cases of coronavirus after 727 more people tested positive in the last 24 hours.

Death toll is at 364 while number of recoveries has risen to 8,419.
