NEMA Official Charged With Corruption
Wilfred Mboya Osumo was charged before Principal Magistrate Felix Kombo.
It is alleged that on the 17th of July, Osumo received a bribe of Ksh 10,000 from a petroleum trader, George Muragu Gichanga.
Gichanga was allegedly paid the amount to avoid the closure of his business due to hazardous environmental reasons.
It was also alleged that on the 24th and 25th of July, Osumo received another Ksh 20,000 bribe from the same dealer on similar grounds.
The accused is also said to have tried to buy his freedom by bribing anti graft officers Ksh 500,000
Osumo denied all the charges levelled against him and was released on a personal bond of Ksh 500,000 with surety of a similar amount
The suspect was also given an alternative of paying cash bail of Ksh 50,000.
Osumo is being represented in the case by David Mong’eri.
The case will be heard on the 30th of October 2014.
