Never again shall Kenya plunge into violence – Uhuru, Ruto

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto used the thanksgiving rally in Nakuru on Saturday to call on Kenyans to shun divisive politics and unite as one nation.

The President and his deputy said that they will not allow the country to bleed again over political competition calling on Kenyans to focus on peace and unity.

In his address, President Kenyatta stated that negative ethnicity should not be tolerated in the country adding that there is no place for violence in Kenya.

“Many people lost their lives while others lost their property due to the 2007/08 Post Elections Violence. It is time for Kenyans to stand up and reject any inciting sentiments that may plunge the county into chaos,” he stated.

President Kenyatta’s sentiments echoed those of DP Ruto who had, in his speech, called on the President to ensure that the country remains peaceful even during electioneering period.

Ruto said that Kenya has gone through enough as a country and is not ready for another episode of bloodshed.

“I pray that God gives us favour to ensure that bloodshed and loss of property due to political competition does not happen again,” he stated.

Uhuru further assured victims of post-election violence of his commitment to ensure that they are compensated as a move to bring healing and promote reconciliation

“We have done a lot to ensure victims were compensated. We will move forward with the process and ensure that those who have been integrated into society are well compensated to ensure healing.”

He stretched a hand of reconciliation to the opposition CORD saying they should join forces to ensure Kenya sails on a path of healing.
