New Ekeza Sacco managers barred from taking office

A court in Nairobi has issued temporary orders barring the Commissioner of Co-operative Development from instating the new managers at Ekeza Sacco Ltd.

In the directive, Senior Resident Magistrate M.W.Murage further barred the removal from office the current management committee of Ekeza Sacco.

This was after a section of Ekeza Sacco members through their lawyer Danstan Omar filed a petition to stop the commissioner from interfering with the current management.

Last year, the Government revoked the Sacco’s license following complaints that Ekeza was sharing office space and bank accounts with Gakuyo Real Estate Company.

It recently emerged that televangelist “Dr” David Kariuki Ngare, alias Gakuyo, allegedly embezzled members’ funds.

The money belonged that was apparently transferred to his personal account belonged to 78,000 members of the savings and credit company.

Televangelist “Dr” David Kariuki Ngare, alias Gakuyo surrendered to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters on Thursday in the company of his lawyer Danstan Omari and six other Ekeza Sacco officials.

They were reportedly questioned for about half an hour by officers including Head of Serious Crimes Unit Joseph Kariuki.

Gakuyo was being sought over the loss of Ksh.1billion from Ekeza Sacco after a directive from Interior CS Fred Matiang’i.
