New Governor asked to prioritise Nurses strike

Migori County nurses union led by their chairman, Mourice Achochi, have asked Governors-elect to find a sounding resolve for the stalemate between nurses and the government over their Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) immediately they assume office.

Speaking to Radio Ramogi, Mr Achochi said the Council of Governors (COG) should write a letter to the Salary and Remunerations Commission (SRC), authorising the payment increment as stipulated in the CBA.

He added that suspending healthcare services at the government hospital has  financially bruised locals, who are incapable of shouldering bills at private hospital.

The union chairman, however, maintained that they will go on with their duty boycott until their demands as per the CBA are met.

Further, he maintained that the county union officials will not negotiate  with the county government over the CBA, asserting that all negations should be between national union officials and the government.
