Ngilu defends Kalonzo over DP Rutos land-grabbing claims

Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has come out to defend Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka over his spat with DP William Ruto on land-grabbing allegations.

According to Ngilu, the Deputy President lacks the moral podium to lecture anyone on matters land grabbing.

“Ruto’s claims that Kalonzo grabbed public land are untrue and baseless. Each and every Kenyan can tell who the biggest land grabber in this country if not in the world is,” said Ngilu.

She was speaking when she toured the Kitui Youth Enterprise Centre (KIYOSEC) at Manyenyoni in Kitui Central on Tuesday.

The Deputy President had claimed Mr. Musyoka illegally acquired 200 acres of land belonging to the National Youth Service in Yatta.

However, Mrs. Ngilu insisted that the Wiper leader legally owns the land, a day after he defended himself saying the allegations are part of a wider plot to taint his name.

“Addressing a rally in Bomet on Friday, DP Ruto made a frivolous and unsubstantiated claim to the effect that I grabbed government land in Yatta… The wild claims hold no water. The allegations are a cheap and desperate attempt at character assassination,” Kalonzo said.

He added: “I have endeavored to uphold the highest moral and ethical standards in all my public affairs. I have nothing to hide. I challenge authorities to open investigations into this matter.”

Kalonzo also accused the Deputy President of causing division and incitement in the country even comparing him to US President Donald Trump.

“DP Ruto has been fomenting bitter division and a class war instead of preaching unity and cohesiveness. As a disrupter of law and order, he is easily comparable to outgoing US President Donald Trump. People like DP Ruto must not be given the chance to wreak havoc through manipulation. They must be stopped on their tracks,” added the Wiper party leader.

Mrs. Ngilu on her part castigated Dr. Ruto’s hustler narrative saying wheelbarrows are not the answer to problems facing the youth in Kenya.

Eight years at the helm of government and he has just realized that that wheelbarrows will liberate the youth? The level of deceit from this fellow is appalling. pic.twitter.com/9QS5mYVWOQ

Five years ago, Ngilu also defended Kalonzo over similar allegations that he had grabbed land.
