NGO board boss issues ultimatum to rogue NGOs

Executive Director of the NGO Coordination Board, Fazul Muhammed, has issued a two-week ultimatum to the non-compliant NGOs to put their house in order or risk being deregistered.

The board has initiated the process of deregistering 957 non-compliant NGOs and has forwarded the list of the NGOs poised for deregistration to the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) and the Kenya Bankers Association to freeze their bank accounts.

Among the 957 NGOs is the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC), which faces deregistration by the NGO Coordination Board on various accounts.

KHCR expressed its dismay on appearing in the list, adding that there had been no prior communication, information and enquiry regarding the issue.

Kalonzo Musyoka Foundation, which is associated with Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) co- principal Kalonzo Musyoka, Airtel foundation and Ahadi-Trust Kenya are among other non-compliant NGOs that have been put on the spot over misappropriation of donor funds.
