Ngunjiri Wambugu in court to stop violent demonstrations

An activist has moved to court seeking the State compelled to formulate laws and regulations to ensure demonstrations are peaceful and in accordance with the Constitution of Kenya 2010.

In the petition filed at Milimani Law Courts, Ngunjiri Wambugu wants the Inspector General of Police, Interior Cabinet Secretary and the Attorney General ordered to formulate a Code of Conduct for demonstrators, that will include detailed explanation of how they intend to ensure non-demonstrators are not affected.

Wambugu is also seeking court orders to have respondents provide clear line of responsibility, of who is liable in case of loss of life or property during demonstrations.

He further argues the state has failed to strictly enforce the explicit provisions of the Public Order Act during protests
