NHIF scheme to reduce cost of treatment Governor Cheboi

Baringo Governor, Benjamin Cheboi, has challenged residents to register with the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) in order to reduce the cost of medical bills in case of illness.

Governor Cheboi noted that despite the health sector receiving a lot of attention from both the national and county governments, the provision of the services come at a fee, be it small or huge depending with the service being offered.

He noted that the medical insurance will help the residents address the cost.

Cheboi added that some specialized services can be acquired in Referral and Sub County Hospitals.

Kabarnet County Referral Hospital is one of the hospitals supplied with five modern dialysis machines by the Government for the Renal Unit.

Johana Chepkonga, a resident of Baringo, said that the equipping of the hospital with the dialysis machines came as a blessing to him since his son has been diagnosed with kidney failure.

He said that unlike previously where he would seek dialysis services at the Moi Teaching and Referral hospital in Eldoret, he can access them easily and fast.

Chepkonga, however, said that the cost remains high and that some more specialized services such as kidney transplant are still not available locally.

The two were speaking during a function at the Kabarnet hospital on Tuesday, September 27.
