Night clubs to be closed for census on August 24

Entertainment spots in Migori County will be closed on August 24 when the census exercise kicks off.

According to Suna East sub county deputy county commissioner Daniel Mutiso, operators have been directed to close down their premises.

He said the move will enable officials from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) to have easier access to residents during the night.

“The census is a very instrumental exercise and we want to make sure that it’s done with the utmost seriousness and integrity,” he said.

Mr. Mutiso said the success of the exercise will determine the future of the county and urged all Kenyans to participate.

He assured residents of security during the exercise that will go into the night saying security officers will accompany KNBS officials to homes.

Speaking to Radio Ramogi, Migori County police boss Joseph Nthenge said the officers will be ferried to Migingo on boats.

In the 2009 census, Migori County had a total of 917,170 people, a number which is expected to increase by half.
