NIGHT OF TERROR as bandits attack village kill nine people
Nine people, among them four children, have been killed in fresh banditry attacks in Mukutani area of Baringo County.
According to a doctor who sought anonymity, the nine were killed after armed bandits attacked the village at around midnight Wednesday, March 15.
Six other people are unaccounted for while three others are nursing injuries.
Mukutani Member of County Assembly (MCA), Renson Barkei, said they are in touch with the national government and security operations in the area will be stepped up to flush out the suspected bandits.
According to a Mr John Wendot, a resident of Kasiela in Mukutani, hundreds of locals are fleeing the area and are afraid that the retaliatory attacks may worsen if the government does not act on the attackers conclusively.
Several houses were also torched during the attack that has thrown the peace campaigns into disarray.
The Kenya Red Cross Society officers are currently in the area offering humanitarian assistance to residents who are now fleeing to the neighbouring areas.
According to another resident, Moses Lemeluk, the attack has increased tension and the search for missing people has been intensified.
Those fleeing their homes have camped at the Mukutani Full Gospel Church and in schools and dispensaries as they wait for the government rescue team.
