Night runners demand recognition as heroes, vow to participate in Japan Olympics

Migori Association of Night Runners on Thursday, October 20, marked Mashujaa Day at Migori Primary School grounds, despite being denied an opportunity by the County Government of Migori to “showcase their talents” at an official function presided over by Governor Okoth Obado.

Speaking at the event, the night runners – who were represented by their President Jack Songo – said that it was time the national government recognised them as “talented heroes”.

Some of the activities that the night runners engage in include running and “playing” with wild animals like hyenas and crocodiles.

Sango has vowed he would lead his team of night runners to participate in the Summer Olympics, which will be held in Tokyo, Japan on July 24 – August 9 in 2020.

The Olympic Games do not have a category where night runners can battle it out for medals.

This leaves an information vacuum as to how the night runners would field their representatives in Tokyo, Japan in 2020.
