Nine die in grisly Makueni accident

Nine people have died while scores others were injured following an accident at Nzaini on Tawa-Kikima road in Makueni County, Mbooni West OCPD James Baraza has said.

According to Mr Baraza, the 14-seater matatu was heading towards Kikima Town from Machakos Town when it veered off the road and plunged into a ditch. The vehicle had 22 passengers on board.

Elsewhere, three people lost their lives in two separate road accidents that occurred today along the Kanduyi-Malaba road.

In the first accident, a child from Nambuchi village passed on after he was run over by a matatu that lost control and veered off the road.

The second accident occurred between Kimwanga and Nangeni Market after a speeding matatu rammed into a stationary lorry that was parked by the roadside.

Eyewitnesses claim the driver of the matatu was trying to avoid an oncoming lorry when the accident occurred.

Those injured in the accident have been rushed to nearby hospitals.
