Nine passengers shot, injured in Isiolo bus attack

Nine people were shot and injured after a bus they were travelling in was attacked by suspected bandits in Lososia Area along the Merti-Isiolo road on Saturday (November 18) evening.

Isiolo County Governor Mohammed Kuti said the bus was attacked by eight assailants, adding that the reason for the attack was yet to be established.

“For the last four months we have not had such attacks, I want to urge our neighbors to think of development and leave such primitive issues,” said Governor Kuti.

Dr. Mohammed Abdikadir Guyo, a medical officer at Isiolo County Referral Hospital, said among the injured were three women, five men and a 12-year-old child who all survived with minor injuries.

Dr. Guyo noted that one of the victims who sustained a gunshot on the neck had been been stabilised and is set to undergo an operation on Sunday (November 19).

“We were on top of the game, we have done all what we can and all of them are stable. The only challenge we have in this hospital is blood, on Monday we are going to do a blood donor drive,” said Dr. Guyo.

Governor Kuti vowed to ensure the cause of the attack is established and those behind the attack brought to book and disciplinary action taken against them.

He urged the residents to remain calm as the government seeks a long term solution to bring to an end such kind of attacks.
