Nkaiserry imposes curfew in Mau Narok following eruption of clashes

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has imposed a dusk to dawn curfew in Mau Narok following the eruption of fresh clashes that erupted on December 25th and have claimed at least one life and left hundreds of residents homeless.

Nkaissery, who toured the area just a day after the clashes started, warned the residents against remaining outdoor beyond 6PM saying those found outside beyond this hour will be dealt with accordingly.

The Interior CS put the residents on high alert saying that cases of ethnic hatred and clashes will be dealt with mercilessly.

Nkaiserry, who was speaking at Olenguruone Sunday afternoon, demanded immediate ceasefire between the communities perpetrating the atrocities that have also left more than ten people hospitalized.

Security forces in the area have also been put on notice by the CS who said officers found on the wrong will be “fired immediately”.

The Interior CS said that police are investigating claims of incitement by local leaders and assured residents that justice will be served without fear or favour.

“Any leader found to have incited the communities into violence will not be spared,” said the tough-speaking CS.

More than 2,000 people have been rendered homeless in Olenguruone after their homes were torched in what has been termed as retaliatory attacks by warring communities in the area.

They are now camping at Olunguroene Township Secondary School after fleeing their homes since the clashes started on Christmas Day.

Members of one community are said to have launched attacks avenging the killing of two herders who were shot dead on Wednesday by unknown people suspected to be from the opposing community.
