Nkaissery denies police brutality, extrajudicial killings

Interior Cabinet Secretary Major Gen (Rtd) Joseph Nkaissery has rubbished reports of the existence of a hit squad within the police service said to be responsible for extra judicial killings of suspects as well as police officers.

In a press briefing at Harambee House, Nkaissery termed the allegations as unsubstantiated and given in bad faith.

The CS indicated that at least 98 per cent of complaints filed against the police were baseless; noting that 5,784 of the cases submitted to IPOA, only 1,330 were found to be genuine.

He insisted that there is no policy within the National Police Service that authorizes extra judicial killings.

On alleged police brutality, Nkaissery intimated that police have opened inquest files on the cases, adding that all cases of police misconduct will be dealt with accordingly.

The CS further noted that police are investigating an incident in which a suspected pedophile now identified as Mohammed Alfayo took to Facebook to share images of a Standard Four girl he had defiled.

Irate Kenyans then took on Twitter on Monday, September 3 under the hash tag #ArrestMohammedAlfayo thus mounting pressure on officers to arrest the suspect.

The suspect has since been arrested and is currently in police custody in Sotik awaiting investigations to be completed.
