Nkaissery gives 18-hour ultimatum to identify Samburu clashes inciters

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has issued an 18-hour ultimatum to the intelligence department to produce a list of those who incited the Samburu-Dorobo clashes.

Speaking during a security meeting in Ngare-Ndare along the Isiolo-Laikipia border, Nkaissery said security teams from Laikipia and Isiolo should immediately arrest politicians and county officials inciting locals.

In the meeting, which was also attended by National Cohesion and Integration Commission Chairperson Francis Ole Kaparo, Nkaissery warned that any individuals listed in a report that he will receive this afternoon will be arrested and face the full force of the law.

He ordered both security teams to monitor chiefs who obstruct the recovery of animals or allow the inciters to conduct meetings at night in their locations saying they will be interdicted.

“Everybody will keep off conservancies and all stolen animals be returned,” he ordered.

The CS cautioned that a team of investigators was on the lookout for inciters saying there will be dire consequences for those found inciting locals.

Nkaissery further ordered the registration of firearms within Isiolo and Laikipia within the next one month, failure to which the government will be forced to disarm the locals.

The order came barely three weeks after three people were killed one person seriously injured after two communities clashed over land at Leparua, along the border of Isiolo and Laikipia North.

According to eyewitnesses, fighting broke out after some members if the Samburu community raided their Dorobo neighbours, making away with 60 head of cattle.

Confirming the incident, Isiolo Deputy County Commissioner, Kipchumba Ruto, said the two communities had being fighting over the grazing pasture in recent times.

The security agents acted quickly to quell the situation, and the livestock was tracked down with the help of the plane returned to the community.

According to Ruto, the conflict has been aggravated by some influential leaders from the region who have been stirring animosity between two communities.
