Nkaissery orders bars to return confiscated ID cards to owners

The Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government, Major Gen. (Rtd.) Joseph Nkaissery, has ordered all bar owners in Kiambu County to return national identity cards to their respective owners.

This is after reports that some alcohol outlets have been withholding ID’s of clients who failed to pay for their drinks.

Nkaissery, who was speaking in Thika after opening new divisional headquarters and later met Kiambu assistant chiefs, chiefs, Divisional Officers (DOs) and District Commissioners (DCs), said that ID card owners should go back to the bars and collect them with immediate effect.

He  directed all chiefs and assistant chiefs across the country to deliver all uncollected ID cards in their offices to applicants into their homes and persuade them to register as voters in readiness for the August 8, 2017 General Election.

The visit by the Interior CS was prompted by the low turnout of persons seeking to be listed as voters in Kaimbu and other parts of the country.

The IEBC targets to register over 600,000 new voters in Kiambu County by the end of the voter registration exercise despite managing to list only 38,000 voters in the first week.
