Nkaissery warns politicians against financing criminal groupings

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has put financiers of criminal gangs on notice, saying no one will be spared in the move to keep the country safe.

Speaking in Kiambu during a security meeting on Wednesday, Nkaissery said that any politician involved in the financing of criminal groupings in a bid to use them to protect themselves and intimidate their opponents will be arrested and prosecuted.

“The government will not sit back and watch as politicians organize criminal gangs in the name of supporters ahead of the 2017 General Election,” he said.

The CS added that his team is following closely on politicians from the county sponsoring the gangs, like Mungiki and newly formed Gaza, which have become a threat to national security warning.

Nkaissery also warned anyone using social media platforms to attack other individuals and the government saying his ministry is preparing a policy paper that will be tabled in parliament, with an outline of penalties to be meted on individuals spreading hate.

He further threatened to sack any administration officer who will publicly display political alignment since doing so would be an impeding factor in the balanced delivery of services to the public.

The CS also reignited the debate saying any chief or sub-chief under whose location illicit brew will be found will be sacked.

The meeting was attended by several MPs among them Jude Njomo (Kiambu), Ferdinand Waititu (Kabete), John Kiragu (Limuru) and Kiambu Women Representative Ann Nyokabi.
