NMS Medical Services Deputy Director to be charged with child trafficking

Deputy Director of Medical Services at NMS Musa Mohammed will on Wednesday be charged with child trafficking offenses.

Mohammed was supposed to be charged on Monday alongside other suspects but he did not appear in court as his representatives said he was sick and admitted at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).

Other suspects, among them Makallah Fred and Selina Awour, appeared before Milimani Law Courts Senior Principal Magistrate Benard Ochoi and denied the charges and will know their fate on Wednesday.

Makallah was exposed by BBC negotiating with an undercover journalist in a well-orchestrated plot to sell a child who had been abandoned at the Mama Lucy Hospital.

The prosecution opposed their release on bail, however praying that should they be freed then conditions to be attached to include restraining them from accessing the hospital and interacting with any of the witnesses.

The hospital CEO Emma Mutio, administrator Juliana Mbete, Beatrice Njambi (who is in charge of a newborn unit), and Administrative Officer Regina Musembi were however discharged by the court.
