No Bond For Muchai Murder Suspect

This comes after the Resident Magistrate court denied a bond application by Simon Wambugu Gichamba who is suspected of having a hand in the murder of the legislator.

Wambugu will have to spend two more weeks behind bars as investigations into the murder continue.

Wambugu, who was found in possession of the slain law maker's mobile phone, will also see his case combined with that of six other suspects.

The prosecution, while opposing the bond, said that it would be a flight risk to release the suspect on bond.

Wambugu's lawayer, Khamadi Shamalla, told justice Miriam Mugure that his client had been tortured by police hence the bid to have him released on bond.

GUNS RECOVERED

The court ordered that the accused be examined by a private doctor of his choice over the torture claims and a report be presented in court on March 10th, 2015.

Wambugu is facing murder charges after he  was arrested in Kangemi four days after the legislator's death.

Last week, six suspects were arraigned in court in connection with the same murder. According to the prosecution, the six, among them two women, may be tried for robbery with violence.

The six were remanded for 22 days at Central Police Station as police furthers investigations into the incident.

They were reportedly arrested after two guns, one believed to have been used in the actual shooting and another snatched from one of Muchai’s bodyguards, were recovered in their possession.

Police said the suspects are believed to be hardcore criminals who were on a robbery spree around the city.

A total of seven suspects are now in police custody.
