No deal reached to import doctors from Uganda

It has now emerged that the Kenyan government has not reached a deal with Tanzania to import foreign doctors from the neighboring country.

The Medical Association of Tanzania President Obadia Nyagole says Tanzania has a shortage of 1,794 doctors which he says cannot allow the country to export doctors to Kenya.

This comes just a few days after the chair of the Council of Governors in Kenya, Peter Munya, announced that the government will employ doctors from Tanzania, Ethiopia and Cuba to fill in the gap that has been left in public hospitals by the striking doctors.

Speaking to Hot 96 the chair of Medical association of Tanzania Obadia Nyagole said sacking the striking Kenyan doctors is not the solution.

Meanwhile Health CS Cleopa Mailu has insisted doctors who refuse to return to work by Monday will be sacked and replaced.
