Vehicles belonging to the Nyamira County Government have been impounded after it was discovered that their insurance covers expired.

On Wednesday, some senior officials in the county government, who had been assigned the said vehicles, resorted to using their personal cars for official functions.

According to the Naymira County secretary, Erick Aori, the government has no funds for insurance covers and the budget for 2018/19 was rejected by the controller of the budget.

Aori added that the only funds the government has are those for salaries until contentious issues surrounding the financial budget are addressed.

At the moment, all vehicles whose covers have not been renewed since September this year are at the county government parking yard.

The only operational vehicles are those attached to the Governor John Nyagarama’s office, the county secretary, some members of the county executive committee and ambulances.
