No talk of 2022 succession with Raila, President Kenyatta says

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday downplayed claims that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is out to split the Jubilee Party ahead of the 2022 General Election.

The Head of State said the two leaders have been discussing about the country’s development and not the 2022 succession politics which threatens to tear apart the ruling party.

There are now two factions in the party, one that is on the President and Mr. Odinga’s side and another that supports Deputy President William Ruto.

“Raila has not told me he wants to be President in 2022, I have not told him that I want to continue being President in 2022, we have just been talking about the issues that affect our people,” President Kenyatta said.

An irate Mr. Kenyatta said claims by a section of Jubilee allied politicians that Mr. Odinga is out to destroy the ruling party are far-fetched.

Ooh Uhuru anaingilia mambo ya ODM, I have no clue even what ODM is… that is a different set-up,” said the President. (the President is meddling with ODM politics, I have no idea what ODM is, that is a different set up.)

President Kenyatta, who was speaking at the Afro Champions Boma Forum on African infrastructure financing and delivery. Mr. Odinga was also in attendance.

He said that the show of unity between him and Mr. Odinga cut across different infrastructure projects in the country where he said their relationship revolved around government projects and finding the best possible outcome for Kenyans.

The President again defended the ongoing Huduma Namba registration process saying digitization of records is essential in service delivery.

“What is this issue of digitizing our records, what is it all about? We sit, we discuss, we agree, he (Raila) also gives me ideas,” added Mr. Kenyatta.
