Normalcy returns to Baringo South as schools reopen

Normalcy has returned to Baringo South after a wave of banditry attacks which had led to the area being declared insecure.  Four schools which had been closed for over three years due to insecurity in Mukutani ward in Baringo South were yesterday opened and learning has resumed.

The schools were re-opened for the first time in three years during an event which was presided over by CS Devolution Eugene Wamalwa,  Baringo Governor Stanley Kiptis and Baringo South Member of Parliament Charles  Kamuren.

The schools include Arabal, Nosukuro, Mukutani and Kapindasum primary schools.

Residents living within the area had been displaced where they sought asylum in IDP camps in Eldume in Baringo South which as a result destabilized learning process in the affected region.

More than 11 people were killed in 2016 by suspected Pokot bandits who had wrecked havoc in the area as they disputed over the boundaries and grazing areas.

Renson Parkei Mukutani ward MCA appealed to the locals to maintain peace to provide a lasting solution to the menace.

MP Kamuren noted that peace which has been witnessed in the recent past in the location has given them a guarantee that learning will now take place as people slowly return to their homesteads. he also thanked the government for beefing up security and also making sure that everything falls in place as schools reopen.

Baringo Governor Stanley Kiptis added that he is optimistic that learning will now go on as peace and stability has been found in the region.

Kiptis said that every development to be witnessed in every region,  there must be peace and people who live as brother and sisters adding that they would not wish to see as leaders, a society where chaos thrive.

Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa who was presiding over the whole process,  said that the government is dedicated to award every citizen in Kenya a peaceful environment where they can conduct their business and daily lives, he also congratulated local leaders for being in the forefront in championing for peace in the area.

The government officials donated 4,000 ironsheets which residents will use to rebuild their homesteads.

This comes after the successful ‘Rudi Nyumbani’ initiative by the area MP Charles Kamuren where internally displaced persons from Mukutani Ward  were aided to go back to their original land where they were displaced by incessant attacks from armed bandits.

The area MP Kamuren has been in office barely six months and says that the initiative is among his key agenda in his first year adding that it is every child’s right to get education.
