North Rift leaders insist outsider varsity boss must go

Kapseret Member of Parliament, Oscar Sudi, has insisted that Prof Isaac Kosgei, who had reportedly topped the interviews for the Moi University Vice Chancellor post, must replace Prof Richard Mibey who retired Monday, September 19.

Sudi stated that the leaders were not being tribal but were just asking for justice, adding that they too have a share in Jubilee government and must be given what belongs to them.

Nandi Hills MP, Alfred Keter, said that if Prof Kosgei does not become the university’s Vice Chancellor, he will in turn, ensure that Education Cabinet Secretary, Dr Fred Matiang’i, goes home.

Keter lashed out at the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) chair, Francis ole Kaparo, accusing him of being the number one tribalist in Kenya.

On his part, Uasin Gishu Governor, Jackson Mandago, said Prof Kosgei must be Moi University’s VC since he is the most qualified.

This comes just two days after Prof Laban Ayiro officially took office as the varsity’s Vice Chancellor following a handover by Prof Mibey, whose ten years’ tenure ended on Monday, September 19.

The handover session, held at the Main Campus, was graced by the University Council Chairman, Prof Jenesio Kinyamario and witnessed by other top management officials at the institution lasted for less than 30 mins.
The transition came just one day after a section of North Rift leaders stormed the institution to protest against the appointment of Prof Ayiro who will be acting for the next three months.
