Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has dismissed claims made by Machakos Senator Johnston Muthama that he has fixed his preferred candidates on the party list in the recently concluded nominations exercise.

On Monday, May 8 the outspoken senator had accused Kalonzo of standing in the way of democracy by meddling in the primaries, adding that Wiper leader had seen to it that some candidates were rigged in.

Although Mr. Kalonzo did not name Muthama, he distanced himself from the allegations that has seen the senator threaten to quit Wiper.

“Forgive them for they don’t know what they’re saying. Some of us have been as transparent as we can be. I cannot be involved in ballot stuffing.  The Machakos nomination exercise was repeated and Bernard Kiala was defeated again,” said Kalonzo.

The Wiper Leader, who was speaking at the Bomas of Kenya as the party issued 551 nomination certificates, remained adamant that all is well within Wiper, adding that their problems will be fixed amicably within the party.

On his part, Wiper Secretary General Hassan Omar said that Muthama cannot support the candidature of Raila Odinga without campaigning for Wiper as the two were a package deal.

“Whatever the problem is let us talk. You, Muthama, said you’d campaign for Raila Odinga. You can’t do that without campaigning for Kalonzo Musyoka. They are tied in the hip,” said the Mombasa Senator.

Kitui West MP Francis Nyenze also reversed his earlier claims that Kalonzo Musyoka was shortchanged in the National Super Alliance (NASA) deal, saying that his initial stance was instrumental in securing the running mate position.

“If Nyenze never said ‘NO Kalonzo no NASA’ we couldn’t have got even the running mate position,” said Nyenze.
