Not yet uhuru for Wavinya as voter files appeal

A Member of the Machakos County Assembly has moved to the Court of Appeal to challenge the High Court ruling that allowed Wavinya Ndeti to vie for Machakos gubernatorial seat in the August 8, 2017 polls.

Wamunyu Ward MCA, Kyalo Kyuli, said argued that Wavinya should not be allowed to contest in the August polls as she is still a member of the Chama Cha Uzalendo member.

This comes after Justice George Odunga ruled that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) committee had no powers to nullify the decision by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal that cleared Wavinya to vie for the Machakos governor seat on a Wiper Party ticket.

In his ruling, Justice Odunga further faulted the IEBC committee for not investigating the coalition agreement between the Chama Cha Uzalendo and Wiper party.

Speaking after the ruling, an elated Wavinya said she’s now ready to face off with her opponents.

Wiper Party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, who joined Wavinya in celebrating the High Court ruling, accused the IEBC committee of playing partisan politics.
