‘Notorious’ robbery with violence suspect arrested in Nairobi

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nairobi on Saturday arrested a notorious robbery with violence suspect.

39-year-old Elizabeth Akinyi was nabbed on Uhuru Highway near Nyayo Stadium while attempting to escape on foot after a suspicious vehicle she was occupying alongside two men was intercepted.

The three reportedly defied an order to stop and instead abandoned the vehicle they were using and fled towards different directions.

The detectives managed to arrest Ms. Akinyi while the two men escaped and are presently being traced.

Among items recovered in the vehicle included: 8 master keys, 180 assorted door keys, masking tape, two mobile phones, a crowbar, a screwdriver, as well as front and rear number plates of a vehicle registration number KCU 586Q.

According to the DCI, Ms. Akinyi is part of a robbery with violence gang that reportedly operates in Gigiri and Kilimani divisions.

She also has a pending court case including one where she and 5 other suspects were arrested for a similar offence on May 18, 2019.

They were arraigned in Kajiado Law Courts and were denied bond on the grounds of being habitual offenders but later moved to the High Court where they were released on a Ksh.200,000 bond each.
