NSSF launches month-long awareness campaign

The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has launched a-month-long awareness campaign across the country to educate Kenyans on its benefits in a bid to have more Kenyans save for their retirement.

The NSSF is a compulsory scheme which provides a range of benefits like retirement pension, health insurance benefit.

According to NSSF Chairman, Gideon Ndambuki, more Kenyans must enroll into the saving scheme as it has transformed into a profitable entity.

“NSSF is the best platform for workers to make adequate contributions during their productive years to cater for their livelihoods in old age,” said Ndambuki.

As a result of NSSF being marred into a series of corruption scandals the most recent one being in October 2016 where it lost Ksh 1.6 billion in shares, many Kenyans are said to be reluctant to enroll in the scheme for fear of losing their money.

NSSF Chief Executive Officer, Dr Antony Omerikwa, said that the campaign mainly targets workers in the informal sector as this is the most affected lot.

The CEO also expressed concerns over dormant accounts and called upon Kenyans to pay the funds monthly.

The two were speaking in Kisumu during a mobile registration exercise to enlist new members as part of the Awareness Campaign.
