NTSA flags off law enforcement vehicles

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has flagged off 45 patrol cars and 5 ambulances to be stationed on main highways and accident prone areas in a bid to curb road accidents and reduce the number of fatalities on the roads.

Speaking after the flagging off ceremony at Uhuru Park, Transport and Infrastructure CS James Macharia announced that road safety guidelines will be reviewed to introduce tougher new measures to curb road accidents.

“We will review the laws governing road safety if they are not adequate then we will use reinforcement to ensure that more are introduced,” said CS Macharia.

“We will also collaborate with all the involved stakeholders in this industry to ensure that they are implemented,’’ added the CS.

The CS noted that road carnage continues to pose a grave challenge to the country as thousands of Kenyans lose their lives to accidents while others are left crippled.

The Transport CS commended NTSA for managing to operate on inadequate resources in attempts to reduce the number of fatalities on Kenyans roads.

On his part, NTSA chairman Lee Kinyanjui said the patrol vehicles will be operational day and night to ensure discipline among motorists is enhanced with the five ambulances dealing with emergency cases.
