NTSA lifts suspension of Transline Sacco licence

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has lifted the suspension of Transline Sacco operations which was effected on the July 16th following a fatal crash along the Mai Mahiu- Narok road that killed 9 people.

In a statement, NTSA said the decision followed a meeting with the Sacco Officials in which they clarified that the ill-fated vehicle which was involved in the fatal crash had withdrawn its membership from the Sacco/Company.

“The Authority therefore has lifted the suspension of operations for Trans line Sacco to resume their operations effective from 19 th July 2016. However, the Sacco is reminded of their responsibility to report to the Authority any vehicles operating using their logo/Trademark that is not registered under their Sacco/Company,” read the statement from NTSA.

According to the statement, NTSA has written to the Kisii Police County Commander to apprehend the registered owner and driver of the ill-fated vehicle who are still at large after the crash.

“The Authority once again takes this opportunity to assure the general public of its commitment in addressing the rising crashes witnessed over the last few days. We appeal to each and every road user to play their rightful role in improving road safety in the country,” read the statement.

On Saturday, NTSA suspended the operation license for all vehicles belonging to Transline Sacco following the Friday night Mai-Mahiu crash that claimed 9 lives.

Speaking to the media on Saturday afternoon, NTSA Director Francis Meja said the matatu was not licensed to operate at night.

“We will be preferring charges against Transline Sacco and for those caught driving at the wrong time. This is a question of discipline, and it is unfortunate that this continues to happen,” the NTSA director said.
