NTSA revokes licenses of 34 PSV drivers for breaking traffic rules

National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has revoked licenses of 34 drivers of Public Service Vehicles (PSVs), for flouting traffic rules.

NTSA cancelled the licences for the 34 after they failed to comply with rules set for night travel, driving while drunk, and speeding.

Forward Travellers Sacco operations officer Peter Mwangi, however, condemned the move by NTSA to revoke licences of two of its drivers saying the Sacco had earlier taken the initiative to present the said drivers to the authority.

Meanwhile, NTSA has also halted operations of 26 vehicles from various Saccos for failing to have speed governors and for not having night travel licenses.

The authority had earlier warned that stern action will be taken against those found contravening road safety rules during and after this festive season.

Speaking on Monday, Muthoni said the Police Traffic Department is collaborating with National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA) to enforce traffic rules strictly to tame the high road carnage that is usually reported during the festive season.

The traffic boss also warned motorists against overlapping, drunk driving and ignoring seat belts while on the road, saying all traffic offenders will be arrested and charged.

In October, the number of deaths resulting from road accidents stood at 2,324.

This was according to a joint report released by the NTSA in conjunction with the National Road Safety Trust.

The statistics indicated that the number of road accidents has gone up by 3.8% since last year.
